We really weren’t trying to get too deep on this. But reader Dasf, pleaded with us. By now everyone that stomps the interwebs, has heard of that mind boggling, gut wrenching crew that is Odd Future Wolf Gang. If not you can catch a small recap here. Despite all the blood, guts, and glory, it turns out, that in the crew of who knows how many, there is a lone wolf that stands a little adrift from the pack. Now make no mistake, he still wears the badge of the OFWGKTA.
Frank Ocean aka Christopher “Lonny” Breaux spits murder and mayhem just like the rest of the crew. But unlike the rest of his brothers in crime time, he doesn’t rap, he sing’s his ass off (no homo). Seeing as though he’s the oldest (23) out of the ODD FUTURE clique he does it with more panache, more maturity. The fact of the matter is, Frank is a seasoned player in the game. Would you believe that a member of Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All Don’t Give a Fu^% has written music for Justin Bieber, John Legend, and Brandy? Please believe it. Frank Ocean in your earpiece.
So what is he doing rolling with a crew of skate rats? Ryan Dombal @Pitchfork said it best : “He’s the latest example of why the major label system is crumbling at the knees of Twitter and Tumblr, too. After getting signed to Island Def Jam about a year ago, the label proceeded to ignore him. Until February 16, that is. That’s when Ocean decided to give away his debut album, Nostalgia, Ultra, for free on his Tumblr.”
Venting about his decision to drop the record his own way, he took to Twitter on March 1: “i. did. this. not ISLAND DEF JAM. that’s why you see no label logo on the artwork that I DID. guess its my fault for trusting my dumbass lawyer and signing my career over to a failing company. fuck Def Jam & any company that goes the length of signing a kid with dreams & talent w/ no intention of following through. fuck em. now back to my day. i want some oatmeal and toast. brunch swag.”
