No ‘Art in the Streets’ for NYC in 2012

If your’re a regular reader, you know that we’ve been huge supporters of MoCA’s “Art in the Streets” Exhibition which is currently owning the West Coast. In 2012, MoCA AITS was scheduled to take place in NYC at the Brooklyn Museum after the Los Angeles run. Unfortunetly, today Arnold L. Lehman, director of the Brooklyn Museum, made an official statement of cancellation. The pending blame has been the economic downturn. The show was expected to open in New York on March 30 and to run through July 8, 2012

“It became necessary due to the current financial climate. As with most arts organizations throughout the country, we have  had to make several difficult choices since the beginning of the economic downturn three years ago.” ~ Arnold L. Lehman, director of the Brooklyn Museum

There’s been some speculation as to whether a potential onslaught of graffiti bombing in NYC was the cause for the cancellation.

Brooklyn Museum is screaming that is not the case. “When you agree to do an exhibition, you do so with the hope of raising the necessary money. But with this show, this turned out not to be the case,” said Sally Williams, the spokeswoman. “The responsible thing was to say that we have to cancel it.”MoCA officials are really hush right now. However Jeffrey Deitch, the director of MOCA, mentioned to Culture Monster there is interest in the exhibition from art institutions all over the country. We’re putting a bet on Art in the Streets Miami.“Art in the Streets” runs through Aug. 8 at the Geffen Contemporary, In Los Angeles.

they said it's because of funding, which can see. ATIS seems like a hell of a production from a money standpoint perspective.
