For the readers of Frank151, if you haven’t picked up a copy of Chapter 43: “the Bug Out” you’re failing. It’s curated by none other than legendary photographer and NYC staple, Ricky Powell. Via Frank 151 – “Ricky’s interest in photography started in the mid-’80s, right around the time he connected with an up-and-coming hip-hop trio called the Beastie Boys. Before long, he become known as the “Fourth Beastie Boy.” Twenty-five years later, “the Oscar Madison of Hip-Hop” has published four photo collections, hosted his own local-access TV show (Rappin’ with the Rickster), co-hosted the Chances with Wolves radio show, shot for countless magazines and newspapers, and contributed his work to several apparel lines. Converse and Puma have even produced a shoe with Ricky.”
And the The Rickster is far from slowing down. His curation in the Bug Out project sheds light on his recent artist collaborations and distinguishing antics. Check out this interview with fellow camera man Joe Conzo, photographer of Born in the Bronx.

CeeLo Green x SNL Part Two

As promised, part 2 of CeeLo Green’s guest spot on the latest installment of Saturday Nite Live. All in all CeeLo and company handled it. However… can anyone explain why Ms. Funky Drummer was behind the stair step installation. She should have been on top of the joint. Not only was/is she sexy to death, she owned those drums aaannnd, she was rocking a pair Cazal 800 series. Yo LadyKiller… massive fail for that.

CeeLo Green x SNL Part One

Atlanta during the mid- to-late ’90s was the ultimate win for great live shows. I was fortunate enough to make my bones at the World Famous Yin Yang Music Café. Artists like Usher, Erykah Badu, Anthony David, even Kelis held their first Atlanta performances in that building. My ears witnessed all of it. Rest assured it wasn’t just about “neo-soul”, ATowns hip hop elite stomped the stage as well… namely the  Dungeon Family. I could go on for days about the Yin Yang Alumni. Maybe I will one day. For now it’s just good to see everybody moving forward after graduation. Video after the jump.

Pharrell William’s Crib in Miami

As of right now, research has confirmed that Skateboard P has never been featured on MTV Cribs. That’s a complete win for portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator, Todd Selby. [Read more...]

24k BMX by Dzine (Chicago)

South Beach, Miami, Florida during Winter Music Conference or Art Basel, is not for everyone. You either go hard or go home. Some don’t make it home at all (no lies, I’ve seen it).  Cultural and social lubrication at its finest, Never knowing who you might bump into from the Marlin all the way down to the breakfast bodega on Collins.

One nite during WMC 2001 or 2002 (it’s all a blurrr), I was invited to dinner by a lady friend of a friend. Since I was at the Sovereign (now Soho Beach House), she caught a cab from the Delanoe to pick me up for dinner at The Ritz.
