J. Dilla: Still Shining Trailer x Art 4 Dilla Competition

Last year while in Detroit for the Movement Festival, mi hermanos Kai Alce, JT and I were invited to what we thought was a J.Dilla documentary viewing. Although it was a great body of work, it was hardly what we expcected. The whole movie was basically about an orchestra trying to learn play Dilla standards live. Like i said it was a cool movie. But while I’m in the D, any JD selections that hit my ear drums better be braking my neck due to nod factor and bass bumpin’.

That said, event organizers from last years DILLA premier should most definitely consider Brian Atkins J.Dilla: Still Shining. Recently announced by Gifted Films Inc, it’s the footage and imagery that bless this documentary with an authenticity that is extremely unique. [Read more...]

The Little Dragon Latepass

Little Dragon is the type of band you want the entire world to know about. Although, you keep them a secret so when you do put people on, they will worship your awesome taste in music. Because Little Dragon is awesome. Explanations of their sound often gets left at “electronic music” or “synthpop”, neither of which does them any justice.  Ultimately it’s up to the music hoarding tastemakers to decide.

CeeLo Green x SNL Part Two

As promised, part 2 of CeeLo Green’s guest spot on the latest installment of Saturday Nite Live. All in all CeeLo and company handled it. However… can anyone explain why Ms. Funky Drummer was behind the stair step installation. She should have been on top of the joint. Not only was/is she sexy to death, she owned those drums aaannnd, she was rocking a pair Cazal 800 series. Yo LadyKiller… massive fail for that.

Atlanta during the mid- to-late ’90s was the ultimate win for great live shows. I was fortunate enough to make my bones at the World Famous Yin Yang Music Café. Artists like Usher, Erykah Badu, Anthony David, even Kelis held their first Atlanta performances in that building. My ears witnessed all of it. Rest assured it wasn’t just about “neo-soul”, ATowns hip hop elite stomped the stage as well… namely the  Dungeon Family. I could go on for days about the Yin Yang Alumni. Maybe I will one day. For now it’s just good to see everybody moving forward after graduation. Video after the jump.
